South Cove begins to be develop as an immigrant community.

(ca.) The area that is today called Chinatown is settled by successive waves of Irish, Jewish, and Italian immigrants, later followed by Syrian and Lebanese immigrants, before finally becoming the home of Chinese immigrants in 1875.
